PRESIDENT SEVAGRAM ASHRAM VISITS GOUTAMI SATYAGRAHA ASHRAM

Sri Jayawant Mathkar, President, Sevagram Ashram Pratishtan visited Goutami Satyagraha Ashram in Seetanagaram, East Godavari District on 10th December.  This Ashram was established in 1925 by Dr. Brahmajyosyula Subrahmanyam.  Mahatma Gandhi visited this Ashram twice along with Ma Kasturbai Gandhi.  This Ashram played a significant role during the freedom movement.  It promoted Khadi and other constructive work activities, publication of a journal and a center for Satyagrahis.  Some of the inmates of this Ashram served prison terms of 15 years.

Kasturba Gandhi National Memorial Trust is managing the Ashram.  Currently the Ashram is organizing a Balwadi School, Anganwadi Training Centre production training etc.  It has a lively ambience on the bank of River Godavari.

It is important that these Ashrams established by Mahatma Gandhi, Acharya Vinoba Bhave and their followers and other places of Gandhian interest be networked and linked to Sevagram Ashram.  Such networking will bring more strength to the Sarvodaya Movement and the Ashrams.

Sri Mathkar ji was accompanied by Sri Shankar Bagade.  The Program was coordinated by Sri GVVSDS Prasad who is the Convener of Sevagram Ashram Pratishtan.

Gandhi Contest

Gandhi Contest attracted widespread attention.  This was done in West Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh. The contest - examination is in objective type with 100 questions.  The permission from the District Education Officer (DEO) is obtained and Mandal Education Officers of the District who control the Schools are involved in the process.

The Question Papers are given to the Schools through the MEOs and the students are given these papers to home and will be collected on a monday - giving them a day or two to answer the questions.  They can consult books, teachers, parents and other elders to get the answers.  It is observed that each student consults - to answer the 100 questions about 4 or 5 adults.  Thus the reach of this examination is about 5 lakh people.
