VASAVI CLUB supports education of Rural Children

VASAVI Club members from Hyderabad visited Burujugadda and distributed note books to about 50 students from Rangareddy and Mahaboobnagar Districts on August 4, 2013..  As part of Club's Education Support program this support was extended at a Function at Burujugadda, Pedashapur village, Shamshabad Mandal, Rangareddy District, organized by Gandhi King Foundation and Vasavya Society for Rural Development.  Gandhi King Foundation launched Sarvodaya Yuva Vahini which is a Youth Wing of Gandhian movement and organized several youth camps on Gandhian ideals.  GKF sponsored about 50 youth and children to attend Youth Camps in New Delhi, Sevagram and Jammu & Kashmir.

Vasavya Society for Rural Development (VASORD) initiated a Development Process in Burujugadda and villages around in Rangareddy District and in Farukhnagar Mandal of Mahaboobnagar.  Social Mobilization, Community Organization, Thrift and Credit, Income Generation and other programs were undertaken in about 50 villages.  With enhanced incomes parents wanted education for their children.  VASORD started Vasavya Vidyalayam, a school for education of the children.  Burujugadda stands as a shining example of a development work of 25 years.

VASAVI Club provided note-books for children of Burujugadda and other villages.  A team lead by Dr. Ravikanth, Ravi Prasanna and others visited Burujugadda.

Dental Camp at Open Air Jail Cherlapalli

A dental Camp was organized at Open Air Jail, Cherlapalli on 24 July 2013.  This Camp was organized in continuation to the Dental Check up done on 18 July.  Mobile Dental Unit of Army Dental College, Secunderabad conducted the Camp.  Dr. J. Kranthi organized this camp with a team of Dental specialists.









Talk on Relevance of Gandhi to Students of Kamala Nehru Polytechnic College for Women

Kamala Nehru Polytechnic College for Women organized a talk on 'Present Day Society and Relevance of Gandhi for their students on 19 July 2013.  Sri Prasad gave the talk to the 300 students and faculty.  The two-hour program focused on the essentials of Gandhian Philosophy - SARVODAYA, SWARAJ, SWADESHI AND SATYAGRAHA.  Sri Prasad initiated a dialogue with the students on the present day situation in the society from the eyes of the young generation.  They outlined the problems of present day society as they see it - Corruption, growing Violence, Environmental Pollution, Apathy of the public servants, people's representatives etc.  Sri Prasad explained that Mahatma Gandhi understood present day problems some 100 years ago and offered solutions.  He said that we have gone into a Greed Mode of society - with my welfare as the central point rather that the WELFARE OF ALL as the focal point.  Young generation should work for removing these constraints and work for a society based on Truth and Nonviolence.

The Program was organized by Ms. Chandrakala, Principal and Ramani, Librarian of Kamala Nehru Polytechnic College for Women, Exhibition Grounds, MJ Road, Hyderabad.  The students had a great inquisitiveness and keen on participating in social change activities.







Health Camp at Open Air Jail Charlapalli

A health Check up camp was organized at Open Air Jail, Cherlapalli on 18 July 2013.  This was the follow up activity to the introductory program organized on 13 July.  A team of Medical Doctors and para medicals led by Dr. J. Kranthi organized the Health Camp for the inmates of the Prison and the Staff.  Health Education was also conducted on health habits, proper diet, etc.








Youth from violence affected areas of Assam visit Sevagram

A group of about 40 youth from Assam visited Sevagram as part of their peace education process.  These Youth are from the areas affected by violence in Assam.  They belong to different sections of the people involved in violent activities.  These Youth are working for peace and harmony.  Sarva Seva Sangh organized an exposure for these youth, many of whom are coming out of Assam for the first time.  The program was organized by Chandan Pal, Secretary of Sarva Seva Sangh and under whose leadership peace initiatives are taken in Assam.

Sarvodaya Leaders addressed the visiting youth that included Dr. Sugan Baranth, Sri Jayawant Mathkar, Sri Chandan Pal, Sri Sriram Jhadav, Sri Prasad and others.






Gandhi to Jails - Open Air Jail Cherlapally

A program was organized to take the message of Mahatma Gandhi to the inmates of Open Air Jail, Cherlapally, Hyderabad on Saturday, 13 July, 2013.  Sri K.V. Reddy, Superintendent of the Jail, Sri Rajender, Jailor and other Prison Authorities arranged the program.  Prasanthi, Sriram Rahi, Madhava Reddy coordinated the programme.

Sri Prasad, Dr. Kranthi, Nisar Ahmed, Amarnath and others participated in the visit and addressing the inmates.  The Prison authorities gave a conducted tour of the Open Air Jail to the visitors.  The jail has about 120 inmates who work in the agricultural farm, producing vegetables, fruits, milk and other agricultural produce.  They have a petrol bunk run by the inmates of the Prison.

Sri Prasad was associated with the Three-Month Certificate Course on Mahatma Gandhi's Life and Thought organized in Central Prison, Rajahmundry, East Godavari District.  Five such courses were conducted in that Prison.  A documentary film was made on this effort which recorded the impact and transformation of inmates of the prison through Gandhian values.

Some of the inmates of Rajahmundry prison were transferred to Cherlapally and hence they are aware of the course and its contents.  This made the process to reach the inmates easy.

Sri Prasad said that Prison life should be taken as an opportunity to develop skills and attitudes for future.  This would help them develop their personalities and become 'Sarvodaya Karyakarthas' and work for a better society.

The inmates work on the farm - in various agricultural activities - ploughing,  irrigating, harvesting, transporting, selling etc.
